The Problem

The Solution

My Role

Save a Life Pet Rescue's website has not been upgraded since the first build, and the lack of structure and design makes them look like an untrustworthy organization.

Redesigning the website through heuristic analysis and integration of new UI components.
Giving priority to the objective of the website to recruit volunteers and donations.

User Researcher, UX Designer, Visual UI Designer, Interaction Designer.

Their Website

The website was lacking in personality, attractiveness, and structure. Their old-fashioned-looking website was losing valuable volunteers and donors.

They did not know what their website stood for. They tried to make everything a priority, making it almost impossible to navigate or find information.

Personally, I am amazed to rediscover my own creativity and passion for design.

As a designer, you need to take risks, make decisions, and take the initiative to create and explore different possibilities.

The Challenge

The challenge was communicating with a real client, understanding what they need, and being courageous to make decisions based on their necessities. Discovering what the client really needs is a delicate art.

The Discovery

After days of research and interviews, we were going nowhere. The fogginess of what the website stands for was too thick. The only solution:  Start again and ask the right questions.

For a moment we were heartbroken, our north star was losing its shine, but then the revelation happened. The website should be a tool of information, on how to get involved, on how to donate, and on how to be part of the community. Their system using Petfinder, Facebook, and Adoptapet.com worked great for the adoption process. The doggies were not the ones that needed help. It was the organization itself.

The focus needed to be on making the information on this website easier to access, which could help them get more volunteers and donations.

The Design Process

The challenge in the design on this particular website was that it was too dated and had no consistent work on it.

I created our design style to preserve the heart of the organization. The blue colors were kept because of their calm properties and welcoming feeling.

The font was chosen for its round edges, making it easy to read and giving it a more modern look, making the block of texts more pleasant to read. The paragraphs were broken apart to create an easy and fast reading pace. The hierarchy was implemented to enforce this concept.

The style is carried in the mobile version, for a responsive design. The match between systems should give the user a sense of harmony and unity.

The buttons were created to give a better signal to the user where to click.

Testing

The full project was tested 4 times. Every time we tested we made huge improvements and found new opportunities to improve even further.

 Old Vs New

It is undeniable the transformation and improvement of the website. It has been an amazing journey to be part of its evolution, and I am happy to see my work being appreciated by the organization.

Save a Life Pet Rescue

This project is close to my heart. In 2020 my family adopted our dog Max from Save a Life Pet Rescue. The foundation was highly invested in making sure Max had a forever home, and they helped us 100% when he was ill from kennel cough. I am eternally grateful and saw the opportunity to show my gratitude through this project.
